Parade for the Veterans

Members of the Virginia Tech Corp of Cadets led the start of the Veteran’s Day parade through downtown Floyd on Sunday afternoon. Joan Earman, pictured taking a picture of the corp, got in the spirit by wearing red, white and blue. Earman was part of the Woman’s Club USO -type canteen that provided hot drinks and baked goods for parade participants.
County veterans marched down Locust Street.
The Floyd County High School Marching Band members performed as they marched.
The Marching Band Color Guard twirled flags as they made their way along the parade route.
Miss County Fair, JoAnna Faye Wilson, waved at passersby.

Floyd County Boy Scouts waved flags as they marched down Main Street.
Dressed in period costumes, members of the Daughters of the Confederacy passed out flags to spectators.
Keeping warm and enjoying lollipops was part of the parade commemoration for some young ones.

I’m slowly getting less surprised seeing that the majority of elders Veterans in parades did not serve in WWII.

Great shots of the parade. Sadly, we can’t throw candy from parades any more here in New Zealand. Rules gone mad 🙁
