The Art of Dream Writing
The thought has to drop
like a pin to the floor
in a bottomless dream
where it stakes its claim
With a prick of interest
that doesn’t draw blood
it won’t wake you up
until morning
When you struggle to make
something out of nothing
or look for a needle
in a haystack maze
When you try to bring together
what a bookmark separates
When one line is a sign
and the other a warning

Great… So much I recognise here, artfully put… Especially liked the notion of: “it stakes a claim” and your finish:
“When you try to bring together
what a bookmark separates
When one line is a sign
and the other a warning”
is brilliant…

Well said, Colleen. I especially like one line a sign, and the other a warning.

Oh this is absolutely brilliant! ❤❤❤

I love the thought of writing like this… it’s so often an art of piecing it all together and searching for words…

Oh this is a deep one, Colleen.

Wow…this gave me the shivers.

O! Following the pin through its journey from interest to struggle to the ominous line between–O! And this poem does that: dream poem.

How we all must dream of getting our words right and produce a beautiful or telling piece of poetry.

Fascinating piece, I enjoyed the read…
BTW, a Colleen with no freckles – that’s just unnatural… 🙂
I am married to a Kathleen Elaine, and I love her freckles – everyone of them!
Merry Christmas!

Brava!

What a wonderful beginning! A thought dropping like a pin to the floor just grabbed my attention and stayed at the forefront of my mind throughout.
This is the art of dream writing indeed — it is as ponderous and eclectic as one would believe it to be. Very well penned! 🙂

I love those opening lines…….a good line of poetry does feel a pin dropping……

I love the simile in the opening stanza, Colleen, and the way you’ve extended it into the whole poem.

Words only a true writer could write. This is wonderful Colleen!

One line a sign- the other a warning- this is how life is……. always. Love this!

I especially love the second and fourth stanzas. That last stanza, man — I keep reading it over and over again. It is SO good.

Well described.
These days I can hardly ever access my dreams once I wake. 🙁
December 18th, 2018 7:16 pm
Beautiful. Hopeful, I wrote about dreams also. Kind of. Loved yours.

This poem has the feeling of an abstract painting. I really enjoyed it.
