Agreement
Cross my heart
and hope to die
The truth must heal
from a virus of lies
Must be rid of the apple
that risks the bunch
A blight at the root
must be nipped by the bud
We must sign the line
and not break our word
We must carry its honesty
Let its wishes be heard

I love that this poem reads like a spell–one we could certainly use right about now in this country (and most of the world). The lie virus needs eradication like nothing else.
I removed the link from the Pantry of Prose because it’s a poem and not a short story. I would love to see it as short tale.

Oh I love this especially; “Must be rid of the apple
that risks the bunch.” A lie can not suffice for long!❤️

I really like the sound of it — the rhythm works very well in this agreement, which should perhaps be signed before beginning with any kind of human relationship.

I like this a lot. Takes me back to childhood, cross my heart and hope to die….unfortunately we are not all as truthful as we should be – either in poetry, real life, or poltics. And excellent write that begins so innociently

True words. I hope there are enough people who value truth to oppose and vanquish its opposite, which has the upper hand right now.

The truth must heal
from a virus of lies… we all seem to be echoing that in our poems lately… more like a collective wish globally.

A virus of lies and scandal seems to be in hurricane mode down under at the moment making squillions for the gutter media, including the chief player our tax funded national broadcaster. Good relevant poem.

Like this Colleen, but I came here looking for your reponse to the Sound Of Blues prompt on TOADS?

I agree with Magaly, this reads like a spell. The apple also reminds me of the Garden of Eden and Snow White.

Oh, I have been cleaning out the bad apples in my life for some time now. It seems social media is making me more aware of the rot in crop. Love this!
