Saint Kevin’s Monastery Glendalough, Ireland
Lime-green shamrock umbrellas
Ireland loves me
She loves me not
She loves me
I press them in journals
like a monk preserving archives
or twirl them like kilts
on giggling girls
In the name of the Mother
the Sun and the Holy Wells
Ireland is a green kite
let go by the fairies
Landed in the ocean
and anchored by rock

I am Irish, so adore this poem’s every line, most especially your closing stanza with the fairies.

Oh, I can feel your attachment to Ireland here in each stanza. I especially like that it is anchored by rock. Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you!!

Somehow Ireland seems so far away for us in Sweden… but these days of Brexit we feels closer and closer.

A vivid mix of motion and emotion, and that shift of belief/love is unsettling in the best way as it brings me back to the beginning again and again. 🙂

This is gorgeously rendered. Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to you 🙂

Ireland is indeed a special place and there’s nothing like St Patrick’s Day in Ireland! I enjoyed the lines:
‘I press them in journals
like a monk preserving archives’
and
‘Ireland is a green kite
let go by the fairies
Landed in the ocean
and anchored by rock’.

I am not Irish but I enjoyed this lovely poem about the Emerald Isle. In NC there is a small town on the coast called Emerald Isle. I am not sure how it got its name but it was founded in 1700’s

This certainly stirs up the Irish in me!

What a lovely poem. Thanks for sharing. And oh, Glendalough is so beautiful. I was there in 1997 too. Happy Wednesday despite everything 🙂
