Family, friends and customers came out in large numbers Saturday to celebrate the Buffalo Mountain Brewery and McDaniel Tavern’s first year anniversary. Part of the SWVA Mountain Brew Trail of craft breweries, Buffalo Mountain Brewery was named “Best Local Craft Brewery” in the region by a patron-voted WSLS-10 poll in 2018. More recently, they were awarded “Best Local Place for a Date Night.”

Saturday’s one-year birthday celebration included live music all day, games, giveaways, two new beer releases and beer brats and specialty burgers from the Fat Bean food truck.

The celebration was a family affair that spread out onto the brewery’s front porch, the front yard, to the back yard fire pits and inside the McDaniel’s Tavern.

A Keg Toss competition was part of the fun. Philip Gilbert won the men’s keg toss. His prize was a Buffalo Mountain Brewery T-shirt.

A sack race line-up of excited children take off after hearing, “ready, set go!”

Children delighted in blowing and catching bubbles. There was face painting too.

The horseshoe toss pit doubled as a sandbox.

Attendees found that beer flight samplers are a great way to taste the wide variety of craft beers that the brewery offers. Some of the standards on tap include Far-Tar (fire tower) Stout, Copperhead IPA, McDaniel’s Scotch Ale and Appalachia Irish Red. New celebratory releases were a pilsner dubbed Summer Daze and a brown ale named Oh, Danny Boy.
