I Quit Poetry
Today’s poetry was paper trash
Unrequited loves that broke my heart
Teased out lines written in circles
Big ideas that fell flat
So I vowed to quit
but miss it already
I put it in writing
but scribbled that too
Now I’m looking for loopholes
to fix what I quit
to write today’s honest word
not tomorrow’s regret

There is no quit. This you know.

I really love the second stanza – LOL – ah, the fickleness of words, or perhaps, it’s just us, — we decide (or throw a tantrum), swear “no more” – and then, write it down. We are chaos theory in breath, thought and deed.
Great little gem Colleen – from beginning tip to the end … which is just the poem, not the desire or need to keep wording.

Too close to home for today…

There is no way to quit… but there are days when it’s harder to make those words to make sense.

The words will never let us go. Thank heavens. What do people do who dont write? Play cards? Lol.

Ha Ha, Sherry, while we work for a royal flush of words or even a good pair!

Once a Poet always a Poet! 🙂 And you are an excellent one!! ❤️

Oh, you’ll find those loopholes, I’m sure of it! 🙂

Ah, Colleen, you can always be depended on to write ‘today’s honest word.’ And ha, as much as one thinks (sometimes) that what one writes is trash, one comes back to it again and again..smiles. I enjoyed this.

It is easier to write about love than find it. However being a poet it is easier to dream of your lover as you can make up the story yourself.

You said it well. Haha … poetry … it is the most aggravating and happiest of life’s addictions.

From my own experience I have found that many lifeless poems can be revived, given enough time and perspective to be able to revisit them and determine just what the problem is. Most often I find that what’s ailing them is a lack of passion!

I love the circular reasoning of this. To quit writing and then writing about quitting. it’s an infinite loop.

It is easy to say I Quit…but then it is much harder to actually do it.

Staying true to yourself is always the key. Love how you just threw your thoughts down and they landed perfectly.

I doubt if it will quit you! And indeed I hope not. But I do love the idea of ‘today’s honest word’ – the greatest essential.
