Small Town Summer Fun for Everyone
-The following first appeared in June 27, 2109 issue of The Floyd Press with a smaller selection of photos.
It was blue skies and sunshine for Thursday’s 2nd Floyd Small Town Summer, despite the possibility of rain in the forecast.
People from all over the county and beyond gathered at the Warren Lineberry Park for the biweekly summer celebration that spotlights local organizations and non-profits and features free concerts, movies, inflatable bounce houses and face painting.
“Put your hands together and thank the town of Floyd for putting together this event,” said MC Dylan Locke to the crowd. Locke welcomed attendees, made some community announcements and thanked event sponsors.
He explained that local restaurants donate food that Plenty! sells to further their work feeding neighbors through gardening, food pantries, community lunches and more.
Friends socialized, families picnicked, children played, and ice-cream and cotton candy got eaten as the sounds of Richie and the Wildlife (above) and Toubab Krewe (below) filled the park.
The crowd filled the park’s amphitheater seating.
A Blacksburg couple said they came to Floyd for the Buffalo Mountain Brewery beer. Discovering Floyd’s Small Town Summer event was an added treat, as was an ice cream cone.
As the sun began setting, attendees lined up to purchase snacks before the Mary Poppins movie began.
The next Small Town Summer will take place on Independence Day and feature The Sway Katz band. Check out the Floyd Small Town Summer Facebook page for more information.

Kari, The face-painted girls is a favorite of mine of the event. Too bad it didn’t get in the paper. My spread was squished into 3 or 4 small pictures on the last page. We miss Wanda. It should have been on the front page!
