Easy Riders and Happy Campers @ Floydfest 2019
They’ve voyaged home to the mountain in droves, those who come back every year and first-timers who know that their first time won’t be their last.
“If you build it, they will come.” That goes for the festival and its yearly art installations that grace the main field. This year it’s a giant sailing ship named for our Floyd mate Rio Simonne, who helped guide the Floydfest voyage until she passed away in 2011.
If going to Floydfest every summer is like running away with the circus, this year it’s like joining the pirates and the mermaids and maybe Peter Pan for a Voyaging Home Neverland adventure.
And there are other ways to voyage than by ship. Check out the Volkswagon bug at the Visit Floyd Virginia tent where they are celebrating 50 years of “Virginia is for Lovers.” I found mine.
There you can don your love beads and Lennon glasses, put a flower in your hair and maybe pick up a hitchhiker. It’s all about Peace and Love at Floydfest. It’s all about music and magic in the mountains.
Floydfest and Virginia is for lovers and for a reunion of friends. Look for a story and spread in this week’s Floyd Press. Meanwhile, check out this video clip of Brandi Carlile’s shout of of love to Floydfest.
Floydfest day 2 is HERE. Floydfest Sunday is HERE.
