Perennial
I’m a fading flower
and summer is slipping by
I keep my head down
and my hands busy
I plant the names of blooms
in the hope they grow into poems
that will take care of me
in my old age
that will come back
every year

I like the thought of perennial poems. If only we could come back … fresh and fluffy like a flower reborn. 🙂

I (too) plant the names of blooms
but
in the hope they (will not) grow into poems
that will (haunt) me
in my old age…

Lovely thoughts. Alas I have no children and am on my own when I get old.

This is beyond beautiful! ? I love “I plant the names of blooms
in the hope they grow into poems that will take care of me in my old age.” ?

I love the idea of a garden with poems in full bloom.

Lovely tender poem.

I like the idea of saving the names if blooms for the next season. I do that also, I keep them as “drafts”.

In time they will, perseverance has its own rewards. Thinking positive will make it so!

That’s such a lovely thought, Colleen, perennial poems for our old age.

I love all the little poetry blossoms we plant and get carried on the wings of the internet! It is a beautiful thing, as we age, to share what little we have learned over a lifetime! Well done!

I think they do take care of us.

Perennial yes, but at my age I wouldn’t say I was blooming all that well now!

May it be so!

I love the concept of planting ideas/experiences, that all the little ones that pop into the notebook only to be superseded are seeds themselves.

May your roots be strong and the seedling of poems bloom in all seasons.

Ha, my comment didnt take the other day. Will try again. I love the idea of planting blooms that will grow into poems. Smiles.

Wow! Powerful words. How the little bits of wisdom that seep into poetry do take care of us…and perhaps prevent us from fading after all.

Oh, keep planting, Colleen, keep planting! You never know what sort of harvest you will reap.

There’s a sweetness I love about this poem. I never thought of planting poems to read when I’m older. But now, I think I’ll find comfort in rereading them periodically in years to come.

Oh! If only planting names will help us remember them year after year! And if they will grow into poems as well, we are mighty fine gardeners. Good, good.
