Scenes From Cirque du Floyd 2019

Shamama (Siobhan Lowe) was the emcee of the third annual Cirque du Floyd, a grassroots event showcasing regional circus arts. Held at Chantilly Farm August 16 -17, the two-day cirque featured performances, workshops, music and vending.
Eliza and Jay Diener-Brazelle came from Richmond to attend Cirque du Floyd. They have been practicing acro-yoga for four years. It was their second year attending the Cirque.
Holly Larkin of Hollydays Creations, a body paint and henna tattoo vendor, offered her artistic talent.
Mim Jeppson of Mim’s Ukes guides children who attended her ukulele workshop in a stage performance.
Gypsy Geoff (Geoff Marsh), a professional magician, clown, mime and circus arts instructor, kept the audience entertained with two shows on Saturday.

Flirting with Chemicals performed Saturday afternoon.
Nightfall brought the talents of Dance Afire center stage. Dressed as Mary Poppins, this Dance Afire member, twirled a fiery umbrella.
ImaginAerial, an internationally acclaimed aerial performance artist collective from New York, was the performance headliner Saturday night. The troupe used themes from The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan and the Little Mermaid in their acts. Glenda the Good Witch first appeared on stage in a giant bubble.

At the close of their act, ImaginAerial invited Shamama on stage. Shamama was incorporated into some of the troupe’s stage acts.
Aliens were on stage during Music Road Company’s band sound check.
Music Road closed out the Cirque with a performance of high-energy World Music.

I generally avoid circuses because they tend to depress me. But I’d go to Floyd’s. There’s a lot of fun and joy going on!

It’s not an animal kind of cirque but one with a focus on regional circus arts.
