Yo Yoda!
He juggles sharpies, draws cartoons for kids and calls everyone Larry. That’s Tom Angleberger, New York Times bestseller of the Origami Yoda series and more. Our grandson Bryce is a fan and now, after seeing him at the Radford Library, we are too.
Tom lives in Christiansburg and was a Roanoke Times newspaper columnist and reporter before he got famous folding Star Wars characters and writing books. He lists Asperger’s as his super power and says on his blog bio that his last name is Angleberger and “NOT Anglebooger!” Along with Origami Yoda, there’s Darth Paper, The Fortune Wookie, Princess Labelmaker, Jabba the Puppett, instructions on how to fold Star Wars finger puppets and more.
Bryce and his brother Liam have been making their own cartoon series books since they were very young. They also make inventive board games, and Bryce makes cardboard costumes and puppets. Bryce sat right up front and, like all the kids, was glued to Tom’s genius, kid-friendly antics.
Tom and the original origami Yoda posed with Bryce.
That’s Liam folding a light saber for his Hopa Joe’s yoda.
Some kids wore Star Wars costumes. Here, Bryce is in a Star Wars T-shirt thinking, after Tom asked him what Star Wars character he wanted drawn on his signed book.
An Ewok! What a super fun night it was.
