16 Hands: A Trifecta of Talent
The three Floyd artists showing at Benji Obsborne’s 16 Hands Studio Tour site are visiting-artist Shanti Yard, a woodturner and 16 Hands members Benjie Osborne, a woodworker, and my son Josh Copus, a ceramics artist.
Shanti was impressed that our grandson Liam knew the gemstones inlaid in his wood pieces. He learned them from playing Minecraft.
This was a tree. That’s Benjie’s work and also the name of his furniture making business.
This was also a tree, Shanti’s work.
And Josh’s pots were once North Carolina clay, dug from the earth. We laughed at the placement of Benjie’s basketball hoop and homemade backdrop, right above Josh’s pots. “Don’t shoot a basketball,” someone said, “because you might break a pot, and then you’d own it.” “But if you make the shot and score, you only have to pay half price,” someone else added.
Josh was happy to see Joe and I and his nephews Bryce and Liam!
Liam didn’t remember when he was little enough to be placed inside one of Josh’s big pots.
We go way back with Shanti and his family. Joe and Shanti caught up.
We might have been at this year’s most fun tour site. Not only was there a paper airplane contest but the Fat Bean truck was there and we had the best soft taco lunch!
And look what Bryce made with (Benjie and Becky’s son) Oliver’s wood burner, a sign to hang over his room.
There were cookies, origami and art everywhere. The airplane flying got so serious (not) we had to take it outside.
Oliver won this round. And Josh’s got caught in a tall tree. Check out this 16 Hands Studio Tour site and others tomorrow (Sunday) 12- 5. More information (including a map) can be found at the 16 Hands webpage HERE._________Our World Tuesday
