Happy to Be Home for the Holidays
Now I understand where the term breathtaking comes from. I literally held my breath as Tara and Philip Bouknight’s voices reached the highest pitch. Uplifting I would call it.
But some were brought to tears too, like when Philip read a moving account of the Christmas truce of 1914 when British and German soldiers stopped fighting to wish each other a happy Christmas.
Seems the music and singing at Sunday’s Home for the Holidays concert had me either breathless or taking a deep breath. Listening to classical music, performed by masters can be transcendent. I dream little stories while awake.
Thanks to everyone performing and to Maestro David Wiley for hosting this celebration and collaboration of the Floyd Center for the Arts and the Blue Ridge Music Festival at the Floyd EcoVillage. Look for a story and photos in next week’s Floyd Press. Meanwhile, enjoy the clips. The last one is Maestro David Wiley’s wife Leah singing an Appalachian carol, which shows how varied and engaging the afternoon’s program was.
