The One Stop Light Bar Hop Night
“How many bars does it take to make it a bar hop?” someone asked me. “Three,” I answered, and three was the Saturday night plan.
Singer songwriter Matt Holloman got some great sounds out of his guitar at the Buffalo Mountain Brewery’s pub, with a wah pedal and looper.
The above video clip is him performing one of his originals. He also took some John Prine requests, and his Neil Young and Led Zepplin covers were memorable.
I highly recommend the Al Capone – sun dried tomatoes, pesto and mozzarella, packed with salami and ham on a ciabatta buttered and pressed bun – and the Oatmeal Stout, aka Constipated Possum, is a regular that, legend holds, keeps you regular.
This was the musicians’ front row seating. It takes one to appreciate one.
We had to look for our next hop stop – the week-old Lush Lounge – and enter through what I called “a portal” to the prohibition-themed speakeasy where we sipped, quipped and were transported out of time.
We had so much smokin’ hot fun at the Lounge that we stayed too late and missed our planned third hop, DJ RahBee and the laser/disco/fog light show by our friend Christian Saunders at Dogtown! We even missed the new SNL cold open!
But look who we ran into at the Lounge having a nightcap, Matt’s wife Rachel (from the Brewery) and Matt himself. Rachel, we discovered, not only comes from Brockton Massachusetts (the onetime east coast shoe capital where my grandmother lived and where we went for Thanksgiving every year), but she lives in Virginia Beach and knows and works with my poet friend/co-founder of Floyd’s Little River Poetry Festival Judith Stevens.
Rachel’s drink changed color over the course our hanging out. Is this really Floyd, I wondered? – More to come on Lush Lounge in an upcoming Floyd Press.
