Fire in the Theater
When there are no golden parachutes
no safe place to land them
When the arsonists hold the matches
that hold us all hostage
adding fuel to burning bridges
while the whole world catches
a Midas curse for the love of money
that’s reduced to kindling
and fanning flames

Money fans the flames. Delightfully descriptive and alarmingly truthful. There is a sense of helplessness sometimes in a world that is our theater and where there is overwhelming theatrics.

A chilling image of the world we live in. May it change—soon!

That Midas curse is indeed catching. Pithy and succinct.
BTW I love your definition of blog above.

I love your subtle unwritten story! Your word-mastery is always impressive.

Funny how the arsonists are always so cold-blooded, eh?
Nice work, CR!

You paint a vivid and brooding image, Colleen. May these troubling times change soon. ?

Amen.

Sadly we are encouraged to hate each other, to be greedy, and to care little for those that are less well off than ourselves. The whole point is to keep buying stuff you don’t need because it is supposedly new, better that others, and the best you will ever use or have. It is called making others rich through your foolishness!

You said it!

Very powerful and well written I love
“a Midas curse for the love of money
that’s reduced to kindling
and fanning flames”
The world needs to change for sure

It certainly looks like the world is living those times now. So many screams. So much heat.

Ahh, those beautiful golden flames…at least the dragons will be happy.

Yes this world is on fire…literally in some places. It’s sad. Hard to maintain hope. Your poem captures the irony, the madness, the insane love of money.

May the water be plentiful and the arsonists be caught!
