When Mara Leaves Me Poems on Facebook
She writes only four
and five star poems
that give me goosebumps
and make me laugh out loud
She takes me places
that are new but feel familiar
Sometimes my eyes fill with salty water
and I miss my hometown peninsula
While she flits through fiddleheads
on the sides of mountains
and washes her feet
in creeks with first names
I want to offer her a towel
and build her a fire
but hers already roars
We’ve burned them in the dark
and picked four leaf clovers
In meteor showers
Mara wears red
But now she wears blue
and nourishes grassroots
She punctuates her causes
Keeps sharpies in her pockets
Her poems are contagious
She passes them like notes
We keep them going
because we gave up talking
Now we let them swirl
like triple goddess spirals
We go out on limbs
to hang them
They buzz back and forth
like dragonflies in summer
ready to stitch good sense
sew torn hearts together

It would be a kind gesture to make up at the end of the day. Good sense prevail so they say. Beautiful poem Colleen!

I love how each poem shared feels like a joyful discovery of a new part of the world. This is just so delightful–the friendship shared, the love affair with words. I love this!

I read this one with the smile. Not just because of the delight in the speaker’s voice, but also because of what it says about the subject, of relationships, and the gift of words. This is yummy.

How satisfying it is to read poetry as beautiful as this. Yes of course I would have loved to have written it as there is nothing like friendship and the wild world to make you feel that all is OK.
