The Poet Beat Goes On
The 5th Annual Little River Poetry Festival (at On the Water in Floyd) was my first event since the pandemic sent us all home to our rooms. It was the smallest turnout yet but that made for a deeper sharing and enough were committed to coming that it turned out to be a wonderful success. People sat in every other chair and avoided hugging, which was hard. Here are few video clip teasers from Saturday.
Local poet Katherine Chantal reads from her new book of poems “Poetic Memoir Of a Nascent Senescent: Musings from My Sixties,” available on Amazon.
A Poetic Duet on Mountain Magic with Jack Callan. I read from a 30-year Retrospective on living in Floyd, titled Where Else But Floyd? and Jack read Floyd inspired poetry from his 18-part poem “Fields of Daniel” in honor of his friend Daniel Sowers, whose family owns the land the festival is held on.
Lisa Kendrick from Norfolk was one of the out-of-town featured poets. Here, she reads Counting.
There were lots of Open Mics. Here’s Jim Best reading One Eyed, One Harmed Purple People Eater (hope I got that name right) … More to come

Thanks for the Videos: I knew I could count on your Loose Leaf Notes to cover the Sixth Annual Little River Poetry Fest. It would have been difficult to get there this year from Santa Fe under the best of conditions but turned out to be impossible this week, given the COVID 19 Restrictions and other obligations, but I was there again in Spirit. I’ve kept in touch with friends in Virginia via the Poetry Society of Virginia PSV Poem Sharing Group Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/233640781114001/?ref=pages_profile_groups_tab&source_id=507702466041247 Despite my bias, it’s worth a look too, for that Fingertip to Frontal Lobe Connection that has to substitute for real Face Time these daze.
