13: The Sea Side of Things
1. Here at Atlantic Beach there are whistling gulls that trill repeatedly in short bursts as they fly by. The first time I heard them, I thought it was someone’s ring tone, or a lifeguard’s whistle.
2. I brought a beach book, but so far mostly I’ve just been reading menus in search of fried clams, but I think that’s a New England thing.
3. So far my favorite beach house name with a play on words is “HAPPY OURS.” “Wine Down” is pretty good too.
4. My first vacation pina colada was good but it was mostly ice. The next day I had a beer called Long Weekend.
5. We walked to a cafe from the beach and it was like walking across the Sahara Desert. It was 96 degrees in the shade.
6. We burned the first day even under the umbrella. The next day we headed for the beach closer to sunset.
7. Pockteful of Rosie Moon: It comes up pink / rises gold / and sets like the ghost / of a white-haired crone- written last year in Atlantic Beach
8. Those are not our flip flops and these are not our books, but I like the story they tell.
9. The beach book I brought is heavy, which means it’s a hard-cover heavy-to-carry big book but it also has a murder-suicide in it.
10. Joe thinks this looks like fun to do, but I like to people watch.
11. I also like palm trees because they remind me I’m on vacation. 12. “Do not get lost in a sea of despair, Do not become bitter or hostile. Be hopeful, be optimistic. Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble. We will find a way to make a way out of no way.” John Lewis tweeted a year before his death.
13. We never found any fried clams but broiled scallops at the local oyster bar worked too.

May the memory of John Lewis and his words always be a blessing. Also, what a nice photo of the two of you. The matching color scheme, intentional or not, is very cute.

Yaaay, Vacation! I can smell the ocean air and hear the seagulls. Mmmmm. I love what John Lewis said. That pretty much sums me up, too. Cheers, Colleen!

I LOVE palm trees… have made lots of art including them. I need to paint them again, but forgot because I live in the West now. Oh but the scallops look yummy. I learned early on in my alcohol experience not to get frozen drinks because they are mostly ice, except for the adult slushies in New Orleans… one could get one and walk around the French quarter… so good. Turning upside down over the water doesn’t look like as much fun as sitting are being engrossed in a big novel!

Vacations are good, although we are not planning one this year. It is awfully hot to be at the beach!

This is so great! I like all the pics and planned on commenting on all, until the last one showed up! You and Joe say it all! Love that pic! You are matching too! “Every picture Tells a Story” …… don’t it!

Yeah, and Joe’s pandemic mask around his neck makes him look dapper. He walked in to the party…
