Flowers the Deer Haven’t Eaten
Our native rhododendrons came and went without much fanfare this year (which means I didn’t photograph them) and the deer ate most of my daylilies. So, when I pass a field of Monet red poppies mixed with spiky purple perennials, I pull over and savor the view.
This is actually someone’s yard. I kept expecting to see Dorothy romp through.
Further up the road, I noticed that the deer don’t seem to care about the abundance of purple chicory along the roadside. They seem leave the wild lilies alone too. Meanwhile, back at home, I discovered that they had eaten my hosta down to the ground. My tall phlox took a major hit too. I try not to take it personal. I try to be thankful for the flowers they don’t like to eat.

Such lush flowers and foliage must look be like a big tossed salad to the deer. In the countryside near my neck of the woods, gardens are like roadside restaurants for these hungry critters that also can be quite picky. 🙂

I just got lesson that deer don’t consume purple chicory and the wild lilies….so interesting.
