Out and About in Floyd

Roberson Mill, located on Roberson Mill Road, stands strong during its first winter since the restoration that closed the building in. The group organizing the restoration efforts for the family-owned mill states that inside restorations are still needed. They hope to open the mill, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, to the public for educational and historic purposes. Tax deductible check or money order donations can be made payable to “Floyd County Cares,” at 100 East Main Street, Room 206, Floyd Va 24091. Not deterred by the snow? Still “Waiting for a Train,” a public art sculpture by Charlie Brouwer that was in between exhibit gigs was loaned to Finders Keepers, where it is pictured here. Brouwer said the sculpture was made in 2017 of locust wood, deck screws and preservative stain.

That mill is cool, I love public art like the waiting for train sculpture.
