Stormed
-January 2021
The day the world fell apart
it thawed and violently dropped
It snapped and crashed in chunks
and loudly broke its wholeness
Truth clung like polar bears
trying to survive
on floating sidewalks
with tell-tale cracks
While the drone of lies
hummed like a generator
that we hoped
would run out of gas
The truth slept
but had a dream
a casualty count
of a world changed
of gathering storms
that no lives can hide from
of gifts not given
and plans undone
Uprooted and unplugged
from the grace of holy ground
The weight of the world
wore us down

Storms are very, very good for showing us where the weak points are–including who the fools are who deny that storms exist.

At first it seems as though you are recounting the horrors of the recent polar vortex that devastated many parts of our country. Upon reflection, it seems that it’s a metaphor for the horrors that followed the presidential election of 2016. Either way, it’s chilling, numbing…and I’m glad that the horrors are melting away…

It was written while the ice storm took down trees and then ice melted and fell like bombs. But of course it has more than one meaning and the storm took on a metaphor for the storming of the capitol and of these uprooted climate changing times.

The weight of that closing stanza stays with us long after the reading. It speaks of so man progressions that don’t end well: small insults between people that destroy relationships, seemingly small insults to nature that destroy the world as we know it… People and systems and worlds can only take so much.

A sobering write which can be interpreted in a number of ways….unfortunately none of them good!

This is a wonderful, though sad reflection of so many things going wrong on earth now. Your words are like sacred warnings of things we must address.
You are so talented.

I thoroughly enjoyed your poem …. these days, feeling like “is there anything else that can possibly happen?” Which I don’t voice …….

Wow superb poem Love how you expressed in beautiful words the sad state of the world in words like “floating sidewalks
with tell-tale cracks”
and “drone of lies
hummed like a generator”
Oh so many great images

Sadly this is the Earth’s future whilst most of us are counting the money we have made. We are such a foolish animal.
