Aka: Morgan Wade Goes to Jail for All the Right Reasons.

Not only did we see Floyd’s own country chart climbin’ star Morgan Wade perform at the Gray Eagle in Asheville, but she and her awesome band stayed at my son Josh and his wife Emily’s Old Marshall Jail Hotel in Marshall NC.

We took a few pictures the next morning before they headed out to their next gig in Winston Salem: for my “scrapbook, you know the blog?” I told her. She was gracious and happy to be invited to stay at OMJ, which she said she lovvved.

I hadn’t seen or talked to her since she played at Floydfest in 2019 and was about to hit the big time. We did an interview that came out in our local paper with the headline “Local Musician Called Up to the big Leagues” HERE. I had been following her music career since the first time I met her in 2015 and she told me about her first show with the Step Brothers at Dogtown Roadhouse. I remember saying to Joe, “We gotta go to that show. She’s a firecracker.” Some were comparing her to Janis Joplin.

Our friend Chelsa, who also came from Floyd and happens to be Morgan’s cousin, let me squeeze up in front of her to get a good view of the stage. I was next to the woman who had tweeted Morgan for weeks to please play Crossing State Lines, which she did.

She played the hits off her new album Reckless, along with some tried and true older orginals and and a rocking Elvis/AD/DC medley, which I only got the tail end of.

Never a Dull Moment at the OMJ: Not only was it a kick to see Morgan sing her heart out to songs most of the crowd knew all the words to, we woke up the next morning at the OMJ to an Amazon Prime series production film crew working right below our window.

The show, called “The Periphreal,” is a sci-fi drama by the makers of West World set to air in 2022. The heroine star Chloe Grace Moretz road a bike across the bridge over the French Broad River while 100 or so crew member did their thing.

That evening when I came out onto the OMJ patio and saw the sparkly tall lead singer of Pleasure Island crooning through the crowd, I thought for a minute that it was Josh getting theatrical, as he does on occasion.

A party was a in full swing!
