13: Respect
1. The RSVP invitation to the family wedding we went to in Massachusetts asked ‘what song would you dance to?’ My first answer was RESPECT by Aretha Franklin. I wasn’t the only one who chose that song, so of course they played it.
2. Number 34 in the 100 Things About Me list on my blog states, “If I hear Aretha Franklin sing “Respect,” I will get up and dance no matter where I am.”
3. At the wedding, I told the dancers the story about being undecided about attending my 40th class reunion when I got a call from an old classmate encouraging me to go. I asked if the DJ would be playing RESPECT and was told ‘we’ll see to it.’ I went and they did play the song.
4. When I searched “Aretha Franklin Respect” on my blog it brought up 11 posts! Including THIS.
5. After the wedding and on the way to Bethany Beach, Delaware to visit Joe’s mom I was at a restaurant/bar waiting for Joe to finish up some work and I wrote to my sisters and friends who were at the wedding, “I just drank a New England Sea Hag IPA and Respect starting playing on the sound system. What should I do?”
6. “It just happened again!” I wrote to my sisters the next day. “This time I danced. The beer was Cloudy Cumbersome, the place was a restaurant porch at Bethany Beach.”
7. I Read the News Today: After the wedding, I got stopped in my tracks by the shooting of school children in TX, feeling sad and outraged and scouring the news.
8. Doom or gloom?
9. I respect HER.
10. “Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good.” I recently heard Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy, who has been a strong advocate for gun control since Sandy Hook, say about working with Republicans to pass gun control laws.
11. Joe and I rode our bikes around Bethany Beach. My hat (pictured in the above video) only flew off once.
12. Covid today is like playing Russian Roulette with less bullets.
13. When we got home from our trip, I wanted to fill our porch bird feeder but was surprised to find that a wren had built a nest with twigs and was inhabiting it. I felt bad for the rest of the birds but I know not to mess with a mother.

My bird feeder is empty, too, and has been for a month. We try not to fill it too much in warm weather. But I do like to see the birds fly around it. I am glad you had a good time. And that you still dance.

At what age does their imagination become an enemy for some people? Something to fear?
Creedance Clearwater songs have me up or bopping in my chair. 🙂
