My Poem is Going to the Moon!
Artemis is an uncrewed spacecraft that was planned to launch today for a moon-orbiting mission. It’s also the name of the premier poetry and art journal, founded and headed up by Floyd Countian Jeri Rogers
Not only is Artemis Journal about to launch its 2022 issue at Roanoke’s Taubman Museum on September 2, 5-9 pm, the journal will be flying to the moon with the Artemis 1 spaceship when it launches, and with one of my poems in it.
Here’s the email that Jeri recently sent out to artists and subscribers: ‘For over a year, Artemis Journal has been in conversation with NASA regarding sending our Artemis Journal to the moon and landed a virtual seat on the Spaceship taking off this week. How perfect is this as we launch our 2022 Artemis Journal this week at the Taubman Museum. Synchronicity is a concept first introduced by analytical psychologist Carl G. Jung “to describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection.”‘
Yes, it’s true that the launch has been delayed because of a technical issue, but it will still happen, maybe on the same day as the journal launch. Reports state that “The next opportunity to send the Space Launch System rocket and the Orion spacecraft on their journey is September 2, but whether or not another attempt is made that day depends on how testing goes.”
And yes, it’s true that I can’t make the Artemis Journal launch because I am already scheduled to be at the Floyd Yoga Jam, September 1 -4, which is sad because the journal launch event will be featuring readings from acclaimed poet Nikki Giovanni, original performances from Southwest Virginia Ballet, and artwork from painter Steven Kenny (whose work graces this year’s cover).
You can get tickets to the 2022 Artemis Journal launch HERE. Check out the journal’s Facebook page and their webpage. HERE is a 2021 story I did Rogers and the journal’s history for The Floyd Press.

Thanks for including my wee little poem in your rundown! I don’t have the journal yet, though. (I sent them a donation.)

Maybe they’re waiting for the launch. I was able to arrange to pick mine up because Jeri lives in Floyd tool.
