And Just Like That, Bam! It’s Yoga Jam!
I missed seeing Palmyra at Floydfest this year, winners of the festival’s On-the-Rise patron voted competition, so it was a happy surprise to catch part of their set Friday at Yoga Jam.
As as mother (and a fan), I love this song!
I believe it is the 11th annual Yoga Jam. It was the first time I wasn’t covering it for the local paper (since the freelance budget was cut). I found myself having more conversations and taking pictures with friends.
I met up with Joe, who was already there to lead an early morning meditation, and our friend Greg, who came with family from near D.C. and had a cool yoga studio camping set-up along the creek.
I usually head for the Dance Hall tent for a beer and this year was no different. I ran into our friend Scott who bought me a beer! It was like getting a bouquet of flowers!
At the campsite there was a hammock
And Greg’s nephew Nick was making a huge pot of chili at a campfire.
I believe they were on their way to a Psychedelic Breath Work workshop.
We danced with friends to the whole set of the Ambassador’s high energy reggae music.
The main stage this year was designed by Maurice Legendre, one of my son Josh’s friends who spent some years living in Floyd before moving to Asheville to go to Warren Wilson College like Josh did.
If you think the stage looked good in the day time, it looked even better at night.
Check out the band’s closing finale and stage light show!
See you tomorrow! Katherine Chantal and I will be doing our call and response poetry in the Tea Shanti at 1:00. The story I wrote for the Floyd Press on last year’s Yoga Jam is HERE. Day 2 of this year’s YogaJam is HERE.
