13: I’ll Take Fries with That
1. The picture above is my camera’s version of a butt dial.
2. Joe and I broke a record this weekend by going to Dogtown Roadhouse to dance two nights in row. First, we saw the Chris Timbers Band and then the Seedpickers. In describing Chris Timbers to Joe after listening to some videos on youtube, I said, “He kind of sounds like Big Head Todd.”
3. Sure enough, they played a Big Head Todd song. They also played Free Fallin, one of my favorite Tom Petty songs, along with some originals.
4. I think it’s no secret that I like rock and roll more than bluegrass. The Grateful Dead song that the Seedpickers did was worth the price of admission.
5. You’ve heard of a trail name? Well, Post Malone (Austin Post) got his stage name from a rap name generator. I looked up mine and it said my rap name was Lil’ Suga Lips!
6. Baggy or saggy?
7. Somber or sober?
7. Talking About Death Won’t Kill You. Last week I went to a death café, hosted by the Blue Ridge Green Burial to share ideas, fears, experiences and to discuss legal details and spiritual and philosophical issues around death. I was there for just a short time when I said to myself, ‘these are my kind of people.’
8. “Instead of “nana,” I should have been called “gaga” because I was crazy about those little grandboys. With two sons and then two grandsons who are now teenagers, I’ve had to experience empty nest syndrome twice!
9. But the music dates weren’t over after two nights a Dogtown. On Sunday, we biked on the Blue Ridge Parkway and had lunch in the Villa Appalaccia, where we enjoyed the music of Max Embers, a 2021 American Idol contestant who made it to the last twenty-something competing performers.
10. Max performed Free Fallin’ too.
11. Joe sang Brown-eyed girl to me and we danced to Max’s rendition of Tennessee Whiskey, which one of the bands at Dogtown (can’t remember which one) also did. The song confused me because it sounds exactly like Etta James’s I’d Rather Go Blind that Leon Russel and Rod Stewart both recorded in the 70s, but the new version had different lyrics. Also, both songs have the line “I’d rather go blind” in them.
12. A New Venue: From Outer Space to a warmer place HERE. Don’t Sit Under the Apple Tree on the soapbox at the Floydfest Poetree where my poet friends and I once upon a time read poetry. HERE.
13. “You gotta resurrect the deep pain with you and give it a place to live that’s not within your body. Let it live in art. Let it live in writing. Let it live in music. Let it be devoured by building brighter connections. Your body is not a coffin for pain to be buried in. Put is somewhere else.” Ehime Ora

I enjoyed your post, in particular #7. #13 makes a lot of sense.

My rap name was Anita Adonis, which doesn’t sound very rappy to me, but I’ll take it.
I’m glad you enjoyed your weekend.

Hey Lil Suga Lips, Dancing Gaga! I love your energy. Being able to dance freely is one reason why I’m willing to get my knees re-done. When I wrote career books, I wanted to do one about jobs dealing with death. XL SE (my generated rapper name, for now)

Hi Colleen! I enjoyed your post. I absolutely the list form, too. Will certainly try my hand at it. 🙂 Thank you for the inspiration.
