My Idea of a Dream House
As a young girl, I was intrigued by the story of Hansel and Gretel, especially the part when they came across the gingerbread house of candy. Although the story turned dark, I never forgot my delight over that fairytale house.
So, it’s no surprise that every year, I am drawn to the Floyd Country Store’s Great Gingerbread House Contest and the fantasy scenes they depict.
This post just shows a small sampling of what the community, adults and youth, has created and what is displayed at The Country Store, The Soda Fountain and businesses around town.
Last week I played Scrabble at the Country Store with friends and was happy to see this Floydfest entry in the window, but was at first confused about the festival connection to the scene, ducks and birds? No, Goose and The Black Crows, bands playing at the festival this year. There are 14 bands represented in the gingerbread house.
The winning entries have been announced on Country Store’s Facebook page.
“To everyone who participated, we want to say a huge THANK YOU! Your gingerbread creations added a wonderful personal touch to downtown Floyd this holiday season, and you should all be proud of yourselves,” the announcement reads.
Happy Holidays!

My favorite is the house at the top of your post, but they are all dreamy.

That’s mine too. It was titled A Christmas Bakery, I think. The Floyd Country Store was amazing on all sides and this pic barely does it justice.
