Fill in the Blanks
Ink traps
and false starts
trip ups
and set backs
no roadblocks
or look ups
no epics
or opus
I’m looking for
a crossword
to fit an empty space
A piece to solve a puzzle
A new clue to follow
I’m looking for new focus
Some good luck
A power-up
A brainstorm to build on
A combination to unlock
I’ m searching for the next step
A sign to point the way
A word play
A game change
A poem to hold my place

I wonder… in poetry I often feel that it is in the blanks the reader has to sit… as poets we need to leave that space. Thank you for your thoughtful words

there is a musical rhythm to this poem – and the Muse should certainly be moved to offer you
“A power-up
A brainstorm to build on
A combination to unlock”

Good Morning Colleen, this reads even more crisply than it did yesterday. Nice and sharp – a marvel… Regards Scott

Life and poetry–that constant searching is part of being human, I think. The last line resonates.

I really like this line….A crossword to fit an empty space… Well done.

I like how you express this! While we are searching for the right and perfect word sometimes the poem is the guide in the dark that wants to write itself.

And in trying to find a poem, you wrote a lovely rhythmic piece.

Such an innovative response, Colleen, outside the box. You always make it different from others, love it!

I’ve been searching for the same. So, if you find it first, let a sister know!

I wonder how some poets start and structure their poem. With a mind map, with variants of structured poetry, with numbered lines. Your poem reminds me of that.

Love the rhythm of this poem.
