Now That I Can Do Crossword Puzzles in One Sitting
Now that I’ve already seen Monet’s Garden
My only bucket list wish is a heated pool
Now that I understand poetry better than I used to
I think I had attention deficit disorder
at least for the things I didn’t want to do
And now that I know I’m never
going to join the Peace Corps
or learn to change a flat tire
I have time to find four-leaf clovers
and stargaze from a lounge chair in the yard
And if I’m ever confined to a bed in a room
I hope my grandson plays Led Zepplin on guitar
His brother can cook me noodles and teriyaki vegetables
while we up the ante in poker and Old Maid

Having “time to find four-leaf clovers / and stargaze from a lounge chair in the yard” is the real gift.

Oh my … this is the most lovely poem. If we lived close to each other, I would join you in the star gazing and the clover picking! Bringing your grandsons into the equation … so sweet. (On my 64th birthday long ago, my grandson’s gift was “When You’re Sixty-four on guitar / singing.)

We pay attention to different things at different times … the ambiance of this piece makes me want to join you in the stargazing.

I’m with Magaly. Those sound like wonderful things to do.

Stargazing from lounge-chairs wins everytime… I like this reflection on priorities and life!

Getting old is mainly for the pits. Somehow, I keep so busy that the pits don’ t bother me. I would want a balcony on my Senior living space. For 19 years our house backed up onto a golf course, nice, we played golf. Our swimming pool has a heater, we don’t swim.
Oh yes, our neurologist has us working crossword puzzles, we haven’t started yet. They take up more time that I would like. My dad worked them.
Wonderful poem, sorry I came so late.
