Lifeboats
There are only a few
I reveal myself to
I let carry me
to places of honesty
I break down or float
without destination
and trust the winding route
to a shared soft landing

A shared soft landing – love that!

I forgot to say ‘please tell us who’ to those who decide on a fictional character (have rectified that omission now). But I’ll take this as an unprompted piece.
I think there are few such people for any of us, but oh how precious they are when we do find them.

The key word is “shared” … give and take is how trust builds and we can be deep-down truthful about who we are beneath the surface.

I fit here fairly well, Mrs. Jim a whole lot more. Sometimes she gets p ‘d when she relies too much. Like driving, she hardly ever does anymore (we don’t talk about it much, shhh, but here friends take her because they know, or think, she got lost going to another bridge player’s home. Houston and its suburbs are almost eight million now. Her friend players are over 30 miles away, not even near Houston’s radius.
The other element, trust, is a factor also in both instances, driving and in a relationship. When I drive she is navigator. We got lost going to the bank this week. Had to ask, and trust, friendly strangers twice in getting there.
TMI, sorry but I did.

Jim, I relate to your wife and am the same about driving. I used to live near Houston for 7 years. I would never go on that highway again.

Yes, we are stuck here. Four of our five kids live here, one, the youngest, lives seven longish blocks away. Three others scattered, farthest is 65 miles in the Conroe area, one in Deer Park, another near the Medical Center, and one, widowed by COVID has been in Ecuador quite a while, may stay there, her son lives in California. The rest of the Grands live around Houston or burbs, we live in Katy on the West. There are other places nice to live but we are “stuck” here.

Deserved trust is a treasure, often hard to come by. Thank goodness for those few. And for the fact that the relationship tends to make all involved just a wee bit happier, and safer.

What’s that saying
love many trust few
always paddle your own canoe.
