Quantum Leap
“The world that you see outside you is the state of your own nervous system. It’s because you have senses that the sky is blue, that the sun is light and that vibrations in the air are sound. You turn them into color, light and sound.” – Alan Watts
Scientists invent words to describe
that nothing is actually something
and something is empty
that a neutron is connected to a proton
like the footbone’s connected to the legbone
and quarks are quirks
that have only been predicted
Microscopes and telescopes
tell the same magical story
We walk on ground
like Jesus walked on water
Memory is the gravity
that holds the world together
and love and death
are not bound by it
But what is a planet
if matter is empty space?
What is a body
if my mirror reflection
isn’t the real me?
Reality is a quantum leap
The future is a spectrum
where entropy meets possibility
the other side of the same
Entanglement is co-dependent
because everything is superimposed
Electrons are connected to atoms
like a bee is connected to a flower
like a physicist is connected to poet
prisms from one conscious mind
lighthouses surrounded by a sea
trying to describe the unseen

Love that last verse especially… the poet and the physicist are the same in the end, both trying to describe the universe in way people can understand. Atoms, words… it is what the universe is made of!

Profound, thought-provoking, and beautiful. I love the 4th verse most of all.

I love this dance between poetry and science. I think there can be overlap between science and art and you do that so beautifully here.

Our brains are like a cage containing our thoughts and we need to transcend it, open the lock, to comprehend the wonder of existence. That is why the scientist and the poet’s key might pull it off, the head and heart. You’ve shown this beautifully.

Holy Schimoly, CR; I read everything you post and dig it all, but THIS, sister, is mind-bendingly Good.

Wow. That means a lot. Thanks, Ron.

OH! I read your poem three times … each time gleaning more from your thoughts, message. This is a brilliant write!!!

I liken this to politics. Like the scientist “invents words” to be able to used to explain and folks can also refer back to in conversation so does the politician though mainly steal a word in existence. I’m thinking “woke” as bad traits while “conservative” is desirable. A decade ago “swamp” was now a bad group.
Lots of fake news and theories are harbored in these and others.
Your write is very complex but all is cohesive. Who invented the word “Nazi” and why was and still is desirable and good to some? Or bad to others?
I’m glad you wrote this, even at NASA we did the same with usage of words and theories.

wow, beautifully profound. Yes, the physicist and the poet, they are driven by curiosity.

Yep. Both profound and touching. Love it.
