"A blog is to a writer what a canvas is to an artist." ~ Colleen Redman

Poem from Scratch

Punch it like a time clock
Time it like boiled eggs

Mix yesterday’s dream
with a sleight of hand

Cross your T’s
and say abracadabra

Pull a rabbit
out of a stranger’s hat

I do hope you are compiling a book of ars poetica! (I’m serious.)

Oh, good idea! I had to look up what it meant. I do have a lot of those. I called them ditties, as opposed to what I think of as poems, and they keep my oils greased while I’m waiting for those.

You captured both the mechanical and mercurial aspects very well. Something to ponder when the rabbit refuses to come out of a hat.

  • 4 Helen:

Abracadabra ~~ I hereby proclaim you quite brilliant. A ditty specialist.

It does seem sometimes I am pulling rabbits out of strangers’ hats…perhaps even strangers’ dreams! Well said!!!

I call them ditties also. I think the ditty can be an ‘ars poetica’ but few are. ‘Ars poetica’ definitely doesn’t have to be a ditty for what I say.
I don’t boil eggs anymore, I cook them in the microwave quickly. 76 seconds at 60% power. If you like runny egg yolks don’t break and stir it of course and adjust the cooking parameters a bit.
Always cover them with a piece of paper towel because before a minute is up they will POP once or more, not badly though.
I’m into square eggs now for making egg sandwiches, or egg plus, ham, cheese, etc. Use a square little piece of pottery or ceramic that is microwaveable. Really good for sandwiches. Spray the bottom and up the side a bit with vegetable oil.
Mrs. Jim didn’t eat any of my concoction. She doesn’t like cottage cheese or beans very much, and the crab salad was heavily Cajun hot flavored.
I cook more than Mrs. Jim now, I cook simple and easy on dirty cooking dishes. Like I did in my bachelor, freedom, days before we married.
