The 13 Thursday Portal

1. I’m not as interested in what I’m doing with my life as much as how I’m being.
2. Portal or rabbit hole?
3. Is presence the best present?
4. I always stop and look at my niece’s photos on Facebook for their mother, my sister, who can’t because she passed away in 2015.
5. I had a dream where I left a just ordered a plate of great food in restaurant, took one bite and then left to help a child by going to an apartment where his grandmother was. While there too long I saw that my plate of food had been cleaned away and was troubled in the dream as to how I could see the food gone without leaving the apartment, which I thought was real life. When I woke up and reviewed the dream, I laughed upon realizing that of course I could see the plate of food was gone because I was in a dream and was not limited to being in one place.

6. I got a Boise portable speaker and membership to Spotify and a suction window birdfeeder and so spent most of yesterday listening to Van Morrison’s discography while watching the birds up close.
7. I also got a book on quantum physics for beginners and read it for about 20 minutes before I needed a nap.
8. Experiments have repeatedly shown that a subatomic object literally exists in more than one place at once until a measurement determines its final resting place. “More than eighty years of laboratory experiments show that atomic-scale particles appear in a given place only when a measurement is made. Astonishing as it sounds — and physicists themselves have debated the data for generations — quantum theory holds that no measurement means no precise and localized object on the atomic level. Put differently, a subatomic particle literally occupies an infinite number of places (a state called “superposition”) until observation manifests it in one place. In quantum mechanics, a decision to look or not look actually determines what will be there. In this sense, an observer’s consciousness determines objective reality in the subatomic field…” Robert Lanza

9. In other words: “Quantum mechanics describes the tiny world of the atom and its constituents, and their behavior, with stunning if probabilistic accuracy. But quantum mechanics in many ways threatens our absolute notions of space and time. When studying subatomic particles, the observer appears to alter and determine what is perceived. The presence and methodology of the experimenter is hopelessly entangled with whatever he is attempting to observe, and what results he gets.”
10. Until the sky lets out / its hemmed in brim / and lifts the shroud / of dark confinement / Cuts a remnant / from the / longest night / for a red-carpet spread / that warms as it mends / that unfolds the hold / of times outgrown / with room / to move / and new patterns to choose – Read The Tight Fit in its entirety HERE.

11. Joe and I were driving in Roanoke when he shouted, “Look, the real Santa!” and we saw this. He pulled over and we met Santa.
12. Miksang (a Tibetan word that means “good eye” or “fresh perception”) Contemplative Photography is about seeing what is on the other side of a dirty window.
13. Party Shots or Parting Shots?

Wow! Another great TT ! Only I am totally NOT into quantum physics – it reminds me of out of body experience, astral projection and LSD. I do like all the other “thought provoking” thoughts in this TT, especially # 1.

Here’s another mind boggling quantum tidbit:When you start to consider that atoms are about 99% empty space and they make up 100% of the universe, you can start to see: you’re made up of nothingness.
Reality is stranger than fiction and what we have grown up to believe about the world and universe seems normal because we’re used to it. But even that is mind blowing.

I like that last picture with you, Joe, and Santa. Your stuff on quantum physics made me think of that dude during the Bush Administration who said they were making reality and the rest of us weren’t. Or something like that. Rumsfield. That was his name. Known unknowns. Unknown unknowns.

I remember that chilling comment. Science is science and has to back up its findings. Lies are lies and outside of the natural order of things. Quantum science does point to a consensus reality that we are part of creating as far as the nature of the universe goes, shaped by shared experience and memory. But still it’s the real that we got.
Einstein said: “Concerning matter, we have been all wrong. What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses. Matter is spirit reduced to point of visibility. There is no matter.” Einstein

My main physics professor (I had her for three or four of my required undergrad classes) was doing her research on just that topic. She talked about it in terms of Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle, but she posited that determining position of a particle was always determined by the observer. This was 30 years ago, so it sounds like she was focusing on the right question.
