A Poet’s Word
I start with a bird
and wait for a song
I tap a nerve
and blur a crossed line
I recite the alphabet
and give up logic
open my notebook
and lift a veil
I don’t believe
everything I’ve heard
I write first hand
in my own words
I wait for an opening
let a habit drop
I track an emotion
and name a new thought

Colleen, you packed a lifetime into this philosophical look-see … delightful writing.

Ha, yes! I particularly like ‘give up logic,’ and the double meaning in the last line, where you both stay true to your calling and keep your words in the notebook.

Off to a good start with birds and those notebooks tell things that we wrote in desperation now have a wealth of cues.
I like your end line, that means you still like civilization.

The process of waiting for the word, blurring crossed lines and giving up logic… says it all…totally relateable.
