13: Can You Dig It?

1. Because I have a friend named Kamala, pronounced Ka-MaLa, and our presidential candidate’s name is spelled the same but pronounced differently, I’ve been confused. But now I know to pronounce Harris “Comma-La” as her nieces instructed us to at the DNC.
2. In my nearly 20 years of blogging, this is my fifth post called “Can You Dig This? I also have a post called “Can’t Touch This.”
3. Three of the ‘Can You Dig It’ posts are garden posts. One is a post on shoveling snow. I also have a post on an old poem that I dug up called “An Autobiographical Dig.’
4. I love poems infused with history / worked into the present-day topic / Like rocks overturned / we return to our worms / unearth our wounds for good irrigation
5. Burrowed in journals are rich story castings / lineage lines that link generations / Like mineral veins of precious inheritance / I’m mining the evidence of my ancestral descent
6.From the age of one to one hundred HERE.
7. We treat getting older like we treat climate change. We know it’s happening, that our skin is wrinkling and we’re forgetting names, that frogs are disappearing and glaciers are melting. We know we are going to die, but we act like we don’t know and that we have all the time in the world.
8. Another popular blog post title over the years revolves around the word Hang: The Hang Out, Hanging Out, Hanging in There, Don’t Hang Up, What’s Hangin’ Let It All Hang Out and Hanging by a Thread
9. It brought me joy to know that I still delight in child’s play. I was reminded that I feel more at home with most children than I do with most adults and that I’d rather play hide-and-seek and give airplane rides than go to a meeting. Read I Got a New Gig in its entirety HERE.
10, Karen Baker is focused on face-to-face campaigning and building trust. Although she is running as a Democrat, her motto is: “My party is the 9th district.” “I love this district,” she said. “I love the people. I love the terrain. I love the spirit and the sense of resilience and fortitude that the people of the 9th district have…” Speaking of Baker’s run for Congress, Senator Tim Kaine said “If you want to know the kind of public official someone will be, look at what they did before they put their name on the ballot.” – Read Floyd Dems fundraiser raises nearly $20k in its entirety HERE.
11. Reading Senator Tim Kaine book Walk Ride Paddle, I learned what Hillary Clinton told him when she asked him to be her running mate: “There may be better political picks than you. But if something happens to me, you would be a good president.”
12. The Second Annual Floyd Living Traditions Festival at The Floyd Center for the Arts welcomed a record-breaking turn-out of attendees to celebrate the traditional arts, crafts and music of Floyd County. – More coming up in this week’s Floyd Press story.

He would have been a good president. That’s good thinking on Clinton’s part. It’s an important post, and important to remember the succession.

A great theme song. They should play it at Harris Walz’s rallies. Remember we saw them do it in concert! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY_5CUmvpdw
