13: Come on People

1. My mantra today is ‘Just Live.’

2. Stick or shtick?

3. Hanging by a thread or hanging in a web?

4. THIS is the soundtrack to this post. My sister Sherry and I saw them in concert in the ‘70s and I saw Jessie at the Harvester more recently. This song remains one of my all-time touchstones.

5. “Do not obey prematurely. Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. A citizen who adapts in this way is teaching power what it can do.” – Timothy Snyder’s mandate for facing coming trouble

6. Sadly, we live in a reality show country now.

7. In times of trouble make art, or at least view it. So, Katherine, Jody and I headed down the mountain to the Taubman Museum to see Eternally New: The Art Nouveau World of Alphonse Mucha exhibition. We learned about the influence of Art Nouveau in modern times, which includes Grateful Dead artwork, along with cartoons and tattoos. More HERE.

8. The Poem – It dangles like a hangnail / that hurts to write / Brushes like a mystery / up against me / Like a thread through a needle / stopped by a knot / It pulls me like a craving / for what I can’t live without.

9. Joe finally made it down to visit our son Josh Copus in Marshall NC, which was on the front line of Hurricane Helene flooding. He built a ramp for a storage unit at The Old Marshall Jail Bar and Restaurant that Josh owns, got to be heart-warmed by all the community spirit there, see the daunting work ahead, drink some coffee from the Zuma food truck (because their café was totaled in the flood) and visit the Nanostead community resource hub.

10. Josh has been interviewed by the Washington Post, USA Today and more. HERE he is on Good Morning America telling the story and HERE is the latest on the clean-up/rebuild efforts.

11. Josh and the Marshall Ballad Swap singers, who lost their old venue home at the OMJ, are taking their show on the road. Their first show was at Gray Eagle in Asheville, and they are set to come to The Floyd Country Store on December 14. Josh is emceeing and all show proceeds will go directly to the musicians impacted by hurricane Helene.

12. We managed to get ourselves on the Dogtown dance floor.

13. More dancing. This video of my friend Katherine and I just living and dancing makes me happy.

Love the picture of Joe & Josh!
I cracked up about your video😂😂
I cried hearing The Youngblood song 🥲 🎼Come on People – get together …right NOW !
Wow! Josh is becoming famous to be on GMA. It just goes to show – to never give up! I felt his devastation and still want to help with the hard work, not just money as I have.

We will all be staying at the OMJ. The projected re-opening is April.

I think I saw Josh’s interview “in the wild”, and I thought of you. Now I can’t recall what I was watching when I saw it.

I am glad Josh is persevering. I am sorry he has to go through this. Good that Joe was able to get down to help.
