13: Give or Take

1. Coming from a family with nine kids, we were only given pennies to put in the poor box at church. We called all the coins that weren’t pennies (nickels, dimes and quarters) ‘white money’ and I thought we were rich if we had those.

2. Back then I thought people who put dimes in their penny loafers were rich.  I figured they did it so they could make calls at a phone booth, which cost a dime back then.

3. The “It Takes Two” Math Assignment:  You compound my interest / I’m counting the ways / I’m finding the common denominator / of you and me / and adding / the possibilities / I’m dividing my time / but multiplying my chances / I’m upping the ante / for winning your love

4. A “thin dime” is a saying used to describe a dime’s physical appearance as well as to emphasize how little something costs if you can get it for just 10 cents. “Turn on a dime” refers to a maneuver that can be performed by a moving vehicle or person within a small area or short distance. It’s predated by the British version “turn on a sixpence.”

5. “Life is an echo, what you give is what you get. Give and take is the way of the world. But when you give something with compassion and take something with gratitude, you are away from the world and nearer to the supreme power. shunya

6. I won a door prize and met an old friend at the Floyd Senior Day Fair that I was covering for the paper.

7. This is how you get down at Dogtown.

8. And then THIS happened.

9. This happened too at Dogtown’s Open Mic when my friend Chris Youngblood and Friends took the stage.

10. I guess my feet know where they want me to go. Walking on a country road…  by James Taylor

11. Taylor Swift was named after him.

12. I guess “Swift” was the give-away and how she rose to fame.

13. There was gift give-away  SWAG at the Senior Fair. I learned that it stands for Stuff We All Get.
