Floyd’s Senior Resource Fair

-The following first appeared in The Floyd Press on May 15, 2025 –

Floyd Senior Day, a resource fair highlighting resources and services available to the Floyd Community, was held at the Floyd Town Hall Community Room on Saturday 10 – 2pm.  The event featured approximately 20 information tables and was hosted by FACT (Floyd Adult Conversation Team), a group initiated by Floyd’s Virginia Cooperative Extension to address some of the needs that seniors have in the county, to answer questions and make connections.

“We invited people who might be interested to meet and see where it would go from there,” said Dawn Barnes, the Extension’s Family Consumer Sciences Agent for Floyd and Montgomery Counties. She said the FACT group consists of representatives from churches, other agencies and individuals.

Barnes noted that the mission of the Cooperative Extension is education that meets the needs of the community. Three program areas of the Extension are Family and Consumer Sciences, Agriculture and Natural Resources, and 4-H Youth Development.

“We do food safety, surf safe, canning workshops and financial planning,” Barnes said. Other recent Extension presentations and workshops have included backyard poultry processing, diabetes prevention and tree grafting.

Attendees filtered through the fair throughout the day, engaging in conversation and picking up brochures and free promotional items from tables, which included information on health care, legal services, community safety, wellness, senior living options and more.  Door prizes were part of the day’s events. Soup, sandwiches and cookies were available as refreshments.

Looks like a very worthwhile event. I am so glad to have found you again! We used to follow each other’s blogs when I was at Linda’s Peaceful Place. I had no computer for more than 7 years and due to the amount of time that had passed I lost access to my old blog. I have missed you, your posts, and your visits and kind comments on my blog.
I started a new blog…Linda’s Relaxing Lair, the url is here for you, and I wanted to let you know that I am back again.

    Take good care of yourself.
