Ars Poetica

The Soulful Aging Poetry Tour is back. Katherine Chantal and I will be opening the 10th annual Little River Poetry Festival in the meadow where On the Water was located (2053 Thunderstruck Rd.) on Friday at 2:00 with a back and forth duo reading titled Ars Poetica.

Latin for “The Art of Poetry,” Ars Poetica is based on a poem written by the Roman poet Horace in 19 BC that reflects on the nature and purpose of poetry and the act of writing it.

We will be sharing our own poems about poems and the practice of writing with titles like Do I Speak Muse?, When We Wait More Than We Write,  A Verb I Can Live With, Timing, The Worth of Words and When You Love Your Poems.

Our reading will be followed by a workshop led by Brian Magill, an open mic, a workshop by Cas Horne, a reading by Piper Durrell and a 6:00 dinner by Adam Morrison’s Two Trees Catering.

More about the Little River Poetry Festival at 2053 Thunderstruck Rd. Floyd, Virginia, including a schedule for the three-day event, can be found on the LRPF Facebook page.

Thanks to festival founders Judith Stevens and Jack Callan who organize the festival. We hope to see some of you there.
