Floyd’s Farmers Market is in Full Swing!

The following first appeared in The Floyd Press on June 22, 2025.

Since 2010 the Floyd Farmers Market at the downtown Community Pavilion has been a hub of activity every Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. More recently, the popular marketplace added a Thursday Market from 2-6 pm, May to October. The summer months are the Market’s busiest time when venders and shoppers fill the venue.

“Our summer market is always vibrant. We have a lot of abundance,” said Market Manager Jasmina Janjic. “It’s a good time of the year for our food providers to offer variety,” she continued.

As manager Janjic sets table assignments, does social media promotion, oversees a Market newsletter, processes bookkeeping invoices and the Market’s EBT program.

A project of SustainFloyd, a rural non-profit that supports local farmers and promotes environmental and agricultural initiatives, the Market is a showcase of local, seasonal, homegrown and homemade offerings, which include fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, mushrooms, teas, eggs, meats, jams, jellies, honey, handcrafted items and more.

In the past few years, the Farmers Market has added a Refillery Station for refilling shampoo, lotions, dishwashing liquid and laundry detergent in an effort to curb the use of plastic containers that might otherwise end up in the landfill.

“We have a monthly recycling event and native plant give-away days,” Janjic noted. She reported that SustainFloyd is in the process of opening a tool share and will be converting a small barn in town for that purpose.

This year, the Floyd Market received a GOLD level certification from the Virginia Farmers Market Association. “This means that our market is recognized in exceeding best practices in categories such as food safety and access, equity, professional development, consumer education, and more,” a Market newsletter read.

The Floyd Farmers Market is always a lively event where families and neighbors meet-up and socialize. There’s always live music, a leashed dog or two and kids mulling about. This past Saturday shoppers and vendors were entertained with the clarinet and guitar playing of Kris and Jeff Kiko-Cozy. The rain held off and the Market was a bustling scene of commerce and community. -Read about the first Farmers Market HERE. Colleen Redman
