Irish Pilgrimage: Third Time is a Charm
It was a night of Irish poetry and music at The Floyd Country Store on Wednesday with poet Katherine Chantal.
Music by Katherine Wiley on fiddle, David Scheim on harp and piano and Julian Pecoraro (Wiley’s son) on cello set the scene and complimented Katherine’s readings.
Katherine read from her latest book Irish Pilgrimage: Third Time is a Charm, drawn from her month-long solo sojourn on the West Coast of Ireland.
Local poets warmed up the crowd before Katherine’s reading.
They included me, co-founder of The Little River Poetry Festival Jack Callan, and artist Sarah Hasty, who once lived in the same part of Ireland that Katherine wrote about, near the Keane music family.
Look for a story with photos in this week’s Floyd Press. Katherine’s book Irish Pilgrimage: Third Time is a Charm is available at The Floyd Country Store and on Amazon.com.
She summarizes her book there: Irish Pilgrimage is a poetic journey to the Emerald Isle, where I immersed myself in the extraordinary magical, whimsical land of my ancestors. I spent a month walking, discovering, opening to the landscape in County Mayo and County Clare. A bit of a memoir, a touch of the philosophical, and reverence for all my surroundings, the trees, ocean, sky, mountains, are found in this poetry collection, from “one of the edges of the world.”
