Equinox 2025
The dark has already come
How much more will it take?
The seeds have been dropped
But are buried
Our world is bent over
Like a sunflower that’s lost its glory
But our poet’s eye widens
Our resolve is not blurry
This dark wears a black mask
But we still see

We will continue to write… maybe a little lantern in all the darkness,

I always dread the oncoming winter darkness, Colleen, and it is dread that I feel in your poem. I especially love the lines:
‘Our world is bent over
Like a sunflower that’s lost its glory’.
And yes, a poet’s eyes see everything, even in the darkness.

“Our world is bent over” indeed, like a rape victim. Where and when will justice prevail?

A very sincere and touching poem about these dark times we live in. It seems that civilisation is in Autumn and hell-bent on coming to a long, dark Winter very soon…

I love the layers of dark and light in your poem, Colleen, especially that final couplet. I hope the buried seeds find the light they’re seeking.

There is a sad feeling with the sunflower that has lost its glory. We need to cling to whatever light we still have.

Thank you for the reminder!

You words had me pondering seeds picked off a sunflower take away the goodness but seeds buried in the dark will grow.

A good analogy of these terrible times to the bent over sunflower.

Colleen, you gave voice to how so many ’round the world feel today. A beautifully composed poem, for all of time, all of seasons.

I suppose the only solace for the growing dark is knowing that there’s a chance for things to cycle back again. I certainly hope so, for the sunflower and for all our sakes.
