Home
Water drips into an empty bowl
when you live in your mind
and your body is tired
A dream collects
bit by bit
and then the rain
erodes it
I like sad songs
that can make me cry
a rhyme implied
and a reason brought to light
I like birdsong
in every poem
I like the road less traveled
and a shortcut home

I got lost on a back road yesterday and was surprised when it led me (at least part-way) home…
Fine work, C.

Colleen, I enjoy regarding the painting you’ve shared of who you are. There is definitely birdsong in it.

There’s an honesty here – we can feel what we feel – no need for a mask!

Well evoked, and love the emotional grip and juxtaposed last two lines 🫶

Oh yes! I completely identify. Which may be to do with how sweetly you say this as well as what you say.

Me too, especially the shortcuts home and let’s not start about songs and poetry. Loved the poem!

The water is bound to erode a few things, but the poet can also build up with their words.
