"A blog is to a writer what a canvas is to an artist." ~ Colleen Redman

I Did What I Wanted

I watched the perennial flowers bloom
one species after another
I watched the corn tassel
and ate greens by the bowlful everyday
I heard the windchimes sing
and fed my neighborhood birds
I met fireflies at dusk
sewed clothes on the porch
and washed the kitchen curtains
I walked the rhododendron dirt roads
in the evening
and ate fresh hen eggs
every morning
I enjoyed being home so much
that I didn’t even go to the pool
I painted my toenails
and read a book in the hammock
I didn’t finish my latest poem
unless this counts as one
I’m still waiting
for my first garden tomato
to turn red

A great advertisement for doing what one wants – when one’s wants are so simple, sweet and real as these.

    This is wonderful!!!
It is indeed a poem, a lovely little poem. You took us on a walk through a day that would be perfect for me. The only thing I haven’t done is sewn clothes on the porch:)

We often spend our days seeing to the wants of others so this tending to ourselves really does feel like a gift and breath of fresh air.

This wonderful write is so much more than a poem, it’s a peek into the “World of Colleen” … the way you have lived, continue to live … and it’s inspiring! BRAVA.
