"A blog is to a writer what a canvas is to an artist." ~ Colleen Redman

13: Poof

1. I went to a party where the cupcakes were topped with frosting, too rich for me. So I tasted it and then passed it to a friend like a joint.

2. My friend Phil who plays the harmonica was there. I call him Philharmonic.

3. I made up a new word: drownpour. We’ve had a lot of drownpours this month.

4. THIS picture of my house with smoke coming out the chimney makes me want to say “choo choo.”

5. Now that the look back is longer than the look forward, I can see through life’s rearview mirror the through-line from there to here. Poetry is the soul’s compass that provides me with a sense of direction. It doesn’t always point to my north star. It’s read from where I am and, like dreams, poetry has no platitudes… You can’t know when you’re young / that some choices are made only once / that lived moments recalled / don’t live up to their originals / They’re like copies of copies of copies / with details that blur over time…   From Objects Are Close Than They Appear

6. Last night I dreamt that someone told me that they posted a blurb on my Amazon book page. Today I had to go check to see if it was real.

7. I had a dream recently where I discovered that dead people were living/existing in the space between words. That was the closest I could get in describing it. They were coming forth. I saw a woman floating up as if from the space between my fingers.

8. Clouds close in / and mushrooms appear / where lady slippers and trillium / and bluebells once were / A moon sail rises / A lovesick sun sets / A hammock swing rocks / and my eyes glaze over / I haven’t heard / my own voice all day… Read my poem Summer Exhale in its entirety HERE. Summer’s Exhale 13 HERE.

9. Cloud nine or #nine?

10. What’s your favorite cloud song. Mine is “Cloudy” by Simon and Garfunkel… They echo and they swell / From Tolstoy to Tinker Bell / Down from Berkeley to Carmel / Got some pictures in my pocket / and a lot of time to kill…  Runner-ups are: Joni Mitchell “I’ve Looked at Clouds from Both Sides Now” and the Rolling Stones “Get Off My Cloud.”

11. I’m drawing a blank.  I drew two blanks at the same time atthe end of my Scrabble game today.

12. Maybe Trump should draw the strait open with a sharpie.” Adam Kinzinger

13. Poof. There goes summer.
