The Art of Poetry

The Art of Poetry– What is poetry? What can and should it do? How and why do poets write? These questions have been stirring up debate since before 19 BC, when the Roman poet Horace responded by publishing his 476-line poem that’s come to be known as “Ars Poetica.” Katherine Chantal and I will be presenting a duo reading and workshop in the spirit of Horace’s Ars Poetica, Latin for “The Art of Poetry,” at Yoga Jam’s Tea Shanti on Saturday at 2:30.

We will be sharing our poems about poems and the practice of writing with titles like Do I Speak Muse?, When We Wait More Than We Write, A Verb I Can Live With, Timing, The Worth of Words and When You Love Your Poems and more. Our reading will be followed by a writing/prompt workshop in which attendees can try their hand at penning poetry in a new light and with an opportunity of sharing it with others. – Colleen Redman

I like the questions – I write as a release and sometimes it feels like journaling too!
