"A blog is to a writer what a canvas is to an artist." ~ Colleen Redman

No Pronouns Need Apply

Dear God, Can I call you
Divine Consciousness?
Can I call you Goddess or Siri
if I don’t trust men?
Is your full name God Help Us?
Are you a thought more than a thing?

Can I call you goodness or wholeness,
white light or black hole?
Are you an operating system?
Are you catfishing people you’ll never meet
for prayers and obedience?

Can I call me you and you me?
Are you a figment, a hologram or a referee?
Are you a chain reaction?
Do you have checks and balances?
Are you a big bang that knows me
on a first name basis?

Are you entropy or stasis?
Are you everything everywhere all at once?
Are you a creation myth or a wish list come true?
Can I call you me and me you?
Can I call you? Can I call you?

Love the way you framed it in questions…. reminds me of that song by Joan Osborne (one of us)

Can I call you? Can I call you?
If you and I are one
    can i just rest alone
    and feel you inside

can you hear me, can you hear me
if i whisper under my breath
if my breath is all I have
    to give
if my last breath is all i have left

will you know me, will i know me
    as i/we remix as molecules
    mostly matter and space
    energy and light
    will love prevail

    and in the end
    will we make love
    take love, give love
    be love
    if God is love
    will we be God together
    all one

This line made me laugh: Is your full name God Help Us?

I’m so glad you got some of the humor, J Cosmo. Joey K, I think we should do a duet reading some day.

I think his name is God Help Us that is the one I use most often, that an OMG!! A great questioning poem.

  • 7 Rosemary Nissen-Wade:

And then there’s the one we all use so often that it has its own acronym: Oh my God!

    I love this poem!

  • 8 Penelope Notes:

All these existential questions so neatly encapsulated in this excellent piece hover around us in both conscious and unconscious ways.

  • 9 Dwight L. Roth:

I love your reflective thoughts here! So many good questions. Maybe it is “Oh my God!!” or “Good Lord!”

  • 10 Geetashree Chatterjee:

An interesting personal interaction with God. Can I call you is a question we all ask
