13 Thursday: No Comment
1. I check for blossoms on my flowers with the same vigilance that I check for blog comments.
2. My Thirteen Thursday last week was almost canceled due to lack of comments on Wednesday. It was the first time in the four years I’ve been blogging that an entry received no comments, so I considered leaving it up until it got one.
3. Getting no comments reminds me of going to a craft show to sell my jewelry (which I used to do) and making no sales.
4. Watching for comments is like watching the clock. It never moves when you’re looking it.
5. If a blogger quits blogging for lack of comments, do the lurkers feel bad?
6. After a whole day without a comment I had to send myself one for a test.
7. Sometimes while clicking my mouse I think about Dorothy clicking her red shoes to link back to Kansas.
6. Speaking of red, Byrce has “no comment” about THIS birthday present.
9. One of my birthday presents was a mouse (cordless) in a cat gift bag.
10. The post with no comments that I mentioned above actually got 2 before the week was done. See HERE
11. I wrote the following poem, titled “No Comment.” off the top of my head after someone gave me the prompt “button.”
I should know by now
how to button my lip
just go zip…
and close it.
12. It’s a good poem to end a poetry reading with, or a 13 Thursday list, but today I have something Beatlesque in mind.
13. And in the end the comments you take are equal to the comments you make
Seems like a lot to say for a blog post titled “No Comment.” Go HERE for more 13 Thursdays comments.

Isn’t it funny that comments from strangers mean so much to us? I hate it when a post gets no comments, too.

I like comments too.

Ugh…I hate it when I get no comments! Hope you get lots this week.
Happy TT!

I am a dedicated lurker many places & I know I feel bad when people end their blogs!
I don’t feel too bad about my own posts without comments (a good thing, because there are many more without than with)!

I used to be a lurker till I started my own blog and realized how strangers’ validation of the effort I took to write my post actually meant something to me. Now, I leave a meaningful comment when I visit even if it’s just to thank the person for sharing. So, don’t give up on your blog! Have a wonderful day with many meaningful comments!
May 21st, 2009 3:32 am
I blogged for several months before I got a single comment. Many times I thought I wouldn’t bother any more. Then I found TT!

I just love #1 because that is so me! I would blog even if no one commented, but for a long time…no one did. It is kind of like entering a room full of people and saying something and having no one look your way. It is hard for me not to do stream of consciousness blogging…blah, blah, blah.
May 21st, 2009 8:28 am
Seems like when I quit worrying about the comments they started coming.
May 21st, 2009 9:06 am
I usually try to comment on all your blog entries……..I think I have been so busy, that I didn’t read that particular one. I also think if it is too long, sometimes people just don’t have the time to read it and comment sincerely. xoxo
PS When I first started reading this, I thought you meant, no comments on your TT…….which I thought odd and had to check. You usually have quite a few on Thursdays.
May 21st, 2009 9:10 am
It really is disheartening to spend time creating a somewhat interesting post, just to end up sitting with no comments. You are not alone.
Happy T13!

Jim has been making fun of my “tiger lilly watch” for a few weeks now. Each day, I’d track the progress. Ooh look, buds! Oooh, look, they’re turning orange! Ooh look, a bloom! 🙂

Have you noticed the slacking off of comments lately? I admit to not commenting as much as I used to, sorry, and my own blog reflects that by not getting as many comments too, what goes around comes around I guess. Love your blog, don’t change a thing. I finally just had to tell myself I was doing this for me and if no one else reads it that is OK! Have a good one!

Yeah, I watch my flowers and my blog comments too. Now my Magnolia and my pink lilies of the valley are blooming.

Ah, poor baby, no comments on a post ? that’s a reason to hang yourself, or maybe it’s more clean to take some sleeping pills ! If I could I would stand here in Blogworld with a hat in my hand looking sad and collect comments for you !
It is frustrating I agree !
Thanks for your kind comment on my wheeping widow, he just is a selfish monster and doesn’t even realize what he has done because instead of a brain he has some swiss cheese with holes in his head and instead of a heart just an empty place. We do our best to recomfort her son and his little 5 year old daughter.

I think lurkers would miss you! I have quite a few lurkers and while I do love comments, I like knowing people are reading, too…
When my friend Megan got married, they played a Beatles song as people filed out of the church. It was awesome!
May 21st, 2009 12:21 pm
I am a lurker. I would miss you. I look forward to reading your blog every day.
May 21st, 2009 1:13 pm
oh… look at all those lovely comments! And you even winkled out a few “lurkers” (I prefer to think of them as shy readers, though!)

Does this help? 🙂

HmmmMmmm… I usually comment when I visit TT’s. Some weeks I get behind and don’t visit much. In general, (outside of memes) I only tend to comment when I have something of value to bring to the discussion, although when I have too much to say, I often find myself exhausted before I begin and choose silence. Happy TT!

It’s been way too long since I dropped by ;–)
Love this list … #s 5 and 6 made me laugh aloud … just because. Hope all’s well with you and yours. One of these days perhaps life will slow down enough for me to have time to sit at the computer a blog hop again … maybe.
Hugs and blessings,

Sometimes when I haven’t been to a blog in awhile I’ll comment on just one post. Lately making a living has been so time consuming I’m not getting the fun stuff done like I used to. Have to remedy that!
May 21st, 2009 5:04 pm
Thanks for all the comments! Of course, I don’t NEED a lot of comments, but I like them just the same. No one should feel obligated to comment; that’s just no fun, and I do understand how my longer posts are less likely to get them, as Sherry said. I agree totally with what Thorne said.
From my own experience and from talking to other bloggers, I do think blog readership and comments are down from what they were a year ago. My blogger friend Doug says he thinks it’s because so many people are out of work and that many got online to kill some time while at work (or like Leslie said: more time spent making a living). Could be Facebook too.
13 Thursdays are a good day for making up for lost comments!
May 21st, 2009 5:38 pm
it’s hard not to get tense when you communicate and get nada. is it the who or the how or the where or what?
3. yep. or like being at a craft sale with people coming to your table to sell and don’t even take a real look at what you’re selling.
on the other hand, a blog is for my own use and its easier to dance like no one’s watching if no one actually is.
May 22nd, 2009 3:28 am
My close friends automatically receive a copy of all the blogs I post through email but I hardly get comments from them. That’s a bit frustrating. But I guess it just can’t be helped. Blogging is a hobby they’re not into.
I completely agree with No. 13. We call it karma. 🙂
May 22nd, 2009 4:34 am
yes, i agree with you about FB being a possible competitor. i believe people are spending more time there. i love it! short, quick, and easy to read/share updates and photos. i spend more time there than i do in blogland. i still read you and others, but it might be my reading 2 posts at one time instead of each day…it just varies.
May 22nd, 2009 9:13 am
I wish more people commented on things. They shouldn’t be shy! I know I have many people who lurk as when I don’t post something, they tell me via the man forms of online communication asking about it. I find that friends/family lurk more then anyone.
Btw netChick sent me!

I agree that it is disappointing when you put a lot of effort into writing a piece and it gets no comments, either negative or positive. But I told myself shortly after starting my blog that I was “writing out loud” and educating myself about the topics I was writing about. I’ve received comments complaining about the “strident tone” of my blog but I just shrug them off – I’m not forcing people to read my posts, after all. In general, I think the lack of comments reflects so many more options now than two years ago. There are millions of blogs out there and we all have to be selective about how we spend our time!
May 22nd, 2009 4:44 pm
The right people will find their way and the others will screen themselves out or move on to new things.
May 24th, 2009 2:38 am
What I find most complimentary is when someone comes back and makes a comment on something you said a few years before.
The most fascinating blogs have some content that is a timeless glimpse into the author’s life. I find your blog fascinating, Colleen…and should visit more often.
I read at Net Chick’s (though this comment is not an official Meet N Greet visit) that you were trying carpal tunnel braces. I hope that is still going well.
May 24th, 2009 9:03 am
I have a couple of old posts that continue to get comments. One is about death and grief and the other is about the amusement park I grew up with, Paragon Park.
I’m at the early stages of carpal tunnel from all the typing/writing/computing I do, so I hope I can reverse it. My hands and forearms have been falling asleep and I’m experiencing muscle fatigue, a slight cold tingling on the tops of my hands.
Thanks for the visit!
