The 13 Thursday Brainstorm
1. Daily Blogging is like dressing but not like window dressing. Although comfort comes first, I’ve got to post what feels meaningful, but I also care what others think and like to make a good impression.
2. The first sign of the coming of spring in my yard is the many earth mound trails from underground tunnels dug by groundhogs that haven’t seen there shadow.
3. Things I hate to admit that didn’t make my personal style list: 1) Instead of joining the Peace Corp, I went to modeling school. 2) I wouldn’t go anywhere without my purple plate, although I admit to calling it voodoo.
4. Getting an outfit ready for the Blue Mountain School’s Mardi Gras Ball is like preparing for an Adams Family prom.
5. I get Rocky and Bullwinkle, Rocky Balboa and Bilbo the hobbit all mixed up.
6. Why I don’t get CT scans: A single CT scan can deliver about the same radiation dose that survivors of the atomic blasts at Nagasaki and Hiroshima endured. A new study from the National Cancer Institute projects 29,000 excess cancers from the 72 million CT scans that Americans got in 2007 alone. Nearly 15,000 of those cancers could be fatal. More HERE.
7. Four places I’ve been on vacation: I bought a Guinness T-shirt after hiking The Cliffs of Moher and pressing wild shamrocks into my journal in Ireland. I accidentally got drunk on Bailey’s Coladas in St. Croix, Virgin Islands, and walked home carrying a boom box that was playing Ziggy Marley. I swam at night under the stars in a phosphorescent bay in Puerto Rico and later composed a poem about it. I stayed in a bungalow owned by a Buddhist with 2 women friends on the coast of Oregon. I’ve also been to Aspen but didn’t go skiing. From “Four for Bill” HERE.
8. Most intriguing google search that landed someone on my blog this week: “Why do you wear a mask? Were you burned by acid or something? Oh no. It\’s just they\’re terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.”
9. What’s really going on in Wisconsin: See HERE.
10. We overslept the American Dream/The Industrial Revolution was a nightmare. ~ See the rest of my poem, published at Poetry24 HERE.
11. Men: HERE’S something fun to do in your spare time.
12. THIS is scary!
13. So is this: Your brain on a cell phone HERE.

I’m afraid to wonder about the video on Wisconsin–can’t watch it on my home computer. I can however, sum up what is happening here in four words: Walker is an idiot. Just one of the many reasons I did not vote for him. Happy Thursday!

Things are very frightening in this country. By the time people wake up – if they every do – it will be too late, and the great divide between have and have not will be too large to overcome.

Thanks for the Wisconsin clip, I never get tired of listening to Rachael break it down because so few people outside of it seem to get it. I worry for my home state and the country as a whole. Did you see the what Walker admitted during the prank phone call when he thought he was talking to one of the Koch brothers?
Happy TT,

Yes, I did hear about that. Here’s a link: http://motherjones.com/mojo/2011/02/wisconsin-scott-walker-koch-prank

This was a dizzying but fascinating look into the inner workings of your mind.
And thanks for the Wisconsin video. I’m endlessly amazed at the twists and turns and convoluted thinking of people when it comes to the unions, nowadays. They made life bearable for so many workers, in some cases even saved lives, but the selfish actions of a few have come to taint the whole.
It’s unfair and it’s unjust.
Worst of all, if things keep going the way they seem to be, we’re going to regress further back than we ever thought we could. I dread what might be coming next.

I am SO not a fan of the gophers/groundhogs. My dogs “hear” them and go digging after them, so there are mounds, then there are holes. Not my favorite aspect of having three wild doggies…

huh, never heard that about CT scans.

I totally agree with #1. I can also identify with #5…
