A Christmas Carol is Seussified
~ The following first appeared in The Floyd Press on December 13, 2012 with a larger spread of photos and captions.
The Young Actors Co-op (YAC) performed A Christmas Carol with a twist at the June Bug Center’s Black Box Theater over the weekend.
It was done in rhyme, Dr. Seuss style, by the youngest cast in the Co-op’s seven year history.
Under the direction of Paul Rycik, “A Seussified Christmas Carol” followed Charles Dickens’ plot, but in this zany and hip version of the classic, “The Scrooge,” played by Alex Hicks, had a Grinchy green face; the ghost of Jacob Marley, played by Ezekiel Cherrix, was a rapper named Jake; Scrooge’s nephew, played by Wyeth Willams, was Bed Head Fred; and Tiny Tim, played by Liam Miller, was Timmy Loo Woo.
The production featured a promising new crop of young actors who performed multi-roles with comedic flair to the delight of sold-out crowds. The set designs were done by YAC member Madeline Emmett, with the neon storybook trees being especially striking. The costumes were colorful and frequently fuzzy and the sound effects were impressive.
Two upbeat dance scenes, fashioned after the Korean rapper “Gangnam Style” youtube sensation, added a memorable pop-culture touch to the production.

I think a lot of the costumes came from the Black Box’s repertoire.

Congratulations on a great show! Too bad you didn’t get the director’s name right. It’s Paul Rycik.

[…] mortified (an oxymoron?) that I misspelled Seussified in the newspaper while covering the latest Young Actors Co-op Play, A Seussified Christmas […]
